From the maker: This product was born out of a personal necessity when caring for our daughter’s diaper rashes and eczema. We tried other products that never seemed to help, and I chose not to apply steroid creams to her sensitive skin. In my research as an herbalist, I knew the traditional uses of Manuka honey, so I created this blend with other powerful, skin-soothing ingredients to bring you what has become our ultimate salve.

This salve is a deeply nourishing blend designed to support the skin barrier and calm visible redness, dryness, and irritation. It’s a go-to in many homes for cuts, rashes, dry patches, and other everyday skin concerns.

Manuka Honey (UMF 16+)

Manuka honey contains unique compounds found only in honey from New Zealand’s native Manuka bush. When applied to the skin, it helps maintain moisture and support a balanced skin environment.

UMF stands for “Unique Manuka Factor.” The higher the UMF grade, the greater the presence of key Manuka attributes.

Low Grade: UMF 5–9
Medium Grade: UMF 10–15
Superior High Grade: UMF 16+

Black Seed Oil

Black seed oil is rich in antioxidants and has long been valued in traditional skincare. It contains naturally occurring compounds such as thymol, thymoquinone, and thymohydroquinone. These compounds contribute to its reputation for supporting skin clarity and helping calm visible irritation.

Hemp Seed Oil

Hemp seed oil contains essential fatty acids and amino acids important for healthy skin. It is known for its soothing and antioxidant properties.

Neem Oil

Neem has traditionally been used to calm redness and visible irritation. It is valued for its purifying and skin-supporting qualities.

Calendula, Comfrey & Plantain Herbs

Roots & Leaves uses a solar cold infusion process for three months to gently extract the properties of these herbs while preserving their integrity. These botanicals are known for their calming and skin-supportive qualities.

About the Scent

The scent of this salve is… unique. One local customer described it as “freshly sharpened pencils,” and we agree. The black seed oil, which is essential to the formula, has a naturally strong aroma. It is balanced by the other ingredients, but still noticeable. Once applied to the skin, the scent fades quickly and does not linger.

Because of the honey, the salve may feel slightly tacky at first, but not overly sticky. It stays on the skin for extended nourishment and moisture.
